The Dancer
Jesse is a traditionalist jazz dancer. He greatly values and participates in social dancing religiously. He especially enjoys Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston, and Blues.
How it all got started:
Jesse started swing dancing in 1996 when his sister got an early start on the swing movement. Unfortunately, it was a short-lived situation as neo-swing didn't really interest him, and his sister no longer was interested in it once the fad set in.
Swing dancing found him again in late 2004 when the dance studio he learned at, Pulse!, was sold and became the Atomic Ballroom. One night when he decided to visit, he managed to thoroughly alienate the entire crowd with an unwelcome one-man resurgence of Neo-Swing. Fortunately, before he was just short of inciting a lynch mob, he met a woman named Audrey Wilson, who invited him to attend her classes and learn what real swing dancing was all about. Once Audrey finally got the neo-swing out (took several, long, arduous months), Jesse could not get enough of the amazing feeling and musicality of swing dancing and went on to pursue dancing passionately. Jesse still dances today and hopes to spread his love and knowledge (albeit limited) of the dance wherever he goes.
Jesse's education in vernacular jazz dance comes from the floor and privately with the many teachers that he has come across in his travels. Some of the especially influential of his teachers include: Audrey Wilson, Shesha Marvin, Peter Flahiff, Ria Debiase, Nick Williams, Ben Yau, and Sheri Yau.
His current Lindy Hop instructors are:
Ria Debiase, whom he greatly admires for her ability to break down concepts and teach them concisely and effectively. He also learns blues from her. She's a tough instructor, but he enjoys how the lessons immediately pay off in that night's dancing.
Ben and Sheri Yau, a couple most known and respected for their creativity on the dance floor. Ben and Sheri have been working on his general dance presentation. They are a fantastic instructing duo- funny and well-educated.
His Balboa instructor is Nick Williams, if only he could be reached. *hint hint*
